My name is Will Hinesley, and I am a third-year Mechatronics Engineering major at the University of North Carolina Asheville.
Recently, my mom's microwave broke and I took it all apart to diagnose it. I eventually discovered that the high voltage capacitor was not working properly and I ended up replacing it. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on a new microwave, I fixed the old one with a $10 part.Â
Another time my friend came over with a broken mini fridge cooler that would throttle under load. I noticed one of the electrolytic capacitors was bulging and I found the same type of capacitor on an old PC power supply I had laying around. After replacing the capacitor, it works good as new!
